On the 17 March 2014 Birmingham City Council Members agreed to stop the provision of Council funded outdoor learning and education.
The decisions that were made include:
Noting the outcome of consultation
Honouring bookings until 31 July 2014, in order to minimise disruption to schools.
Approving withdrawal from the market and cessation of the Outdoor Learning Service, at the following sites:
Coopers Mill Cottage
Mount Pleasant Farm
The Stables (Hunters Hill School Site)
Springfield Outdoor Learning Centre Ogwen Cottage
Stansfeld Outdoor Education Centre
Bockleton Study Centre
Bell Heath Study Centre
Authorising the continuation of:
Opportunities for young people at Clifton Road Outdoor Education Centre, Sutton, (including authority to transfer this asset from one part of the Council to another).
Statutory responsibilities around outdoor educational visits.
Short Breaks Service for children with disabilities and their families.
Education at Birmingham Nature Centre.
Authorising the handover of:
Sailing for schools to Bartley Green Sailing Club.
Outdoor education at Birmingham Botanical Gardens to Birmingham Botanical Gardens.
Environmental study support to EON at Hams Hall (subject to their decision).
We are currently formulating a safe strategy for cessation of services from 31 July 2014. The bookings in place will not be impacted on and you do not need to take any specific action unless we contact you.
I will keep you informed as to progress and contact you directly should that become necessary.
Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any queries.
