What We Do

The Council's Outdoor Learning Service provides Birmingham schools with unique learning opportunities for over 100,000 pupils from 3,500 school groups each year through the use of residential and day centres.  There are seven day centres in and around Birmingham, including one exclusively for children with special needs. These day centres provide unique environments for conducting a wide range of studies and offer invaluable farm, environmental and outdoor experiences.  Residential experience is available at four centres in diverse settings such as Belbroughton and Bangor and several camp sites in the country. The OLS also work with youth groups and families to promote extended learning.  INSET and other courses can also be run for groups, an example of which can be found below.

Recent Projects include:

YARDLEY SCHOOL @ OGWEN

19 teachers from Yardley School had a week end of In Service Training at Ogwen.  The weather was brilliant and they enjoyed two full days of activities including a Sea Level Traverse, mountain walk, canoeing and kayaking.

Some quotes: "We had a fantastic week end. Your staff were lovely and extremely patient with us. "
...."It was the best week end of my life and I have had 53 years of them."

It  was an enjoyable week end for both the teachers and Ogwen staff and has hopefully set a precedent and will lead to future Yardley trips to Ogwen.
